This week’s transcription is Paul Chambers’ GORGEOUS bass line on the title track of Miles Davis’ 1961 release “Someday My Prince Will Come.” While I’ve never watched Snow White for the bass lines, I’ve always enjoyed this track for its simplicity and beauty.
Something noticeably missing on this recording: ego. And I don’t miss it one bit. Simple, pretty lines, plus I particularly like pianist Wynton Kelly’s gentle touch during Chambers’ pedal points throughout.
If you want a sight reading workout, this one is great to play along with the recording sight unseen, since it begins with the dotted quarters to "warm up" and into the walking line.
