I'll never forget this solo because back when I first came across it, I attempted to play it in front of my (much more skilled) peers in a college class... and bombed so hard.
Since I am now able to play bass for enjoyment and not the pressure of OH GOD I HOPE I DON'T SUCK AT THIS IN FRONT OF THE CLASS, I've been able to work it up to tempo, and my gosh is it fun to play!
Today's transcription is Sonny Stitt’s tenor solo on his 1950 album “Sonny Stitt/Bud Powell/JJ Johnson” song Sonny Side, arranged for bass.
In my book it's right up there with any of the great Bird solos. Lots to learn here… enjoy!
